UPSC Syllabus 2019|Civil Service syllabus for Mains & Prelims.

It’s not 2012 or earlier any more.preparing and cracking civils isn’t as easy as it used to the first thing you need do is completely know syllabus.

I’m going to share with you the complete UPSC Syllabus 2019.

The Union Public Service Commission ( UPSC ) conducts civil service examination for Prelims as well as Mains every aspirants should face those two examinations to reach their dream of IAS or IPS & Other civil services.

Civil Service Examination consists of Three papers.




UPSC Syllabus 2019 for Prelims:

The preliminary examination is only  qualifying nature to write mains.It comprises of Two papers.1.Paper-1 that is General Studies.2.Paper -11 which is CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test ) that was newly introduced in 2011.

Paper-1 Syllabus ( General Studies ):

  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues.
  • Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change ( not required specialisation).
  • General Science.

Paper-11 Syllabus CSAT ( Civil Service Aptitude Test ):

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy(numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude-Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency  – Class X level)Question Paper Details:

Paper-1: In this paper, 200 Objective Questions ( Multiple choice ) are asked on current events,Indian History,Indian and World Geography,Polity,Social and Economic Development and Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity for 200 marks.Duration of the exam is 2 hours.

Paper-11:This paper is to check candidate’s knowledge and is of qualifying nature.however, aspirants need to get at least 33 % marks in this particular this 200 questions will be given on Comprehension,  Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Decision-making and problem solving ,General mental ability and  Basic numeracy for 200 marks.duration of the exam will be 2 hours.

Note :Negative marks are applicable,for every wrong answer, 1/3 marks will be deducted.

UPSC Syllabus 2019-Mains:

There are a total of 9 papers in UPSC Mains.Two of them is only for qualifying nature and the rest of the papers  are considered as ranking in nature.

UPSC Syllabus 2019-Personal Interview:

Candidate who completes the UPSC Mains will be called for Personnel Interview.

UPSC constitutes a Board for conducting Interviews.

Aim of the same is to assess the Personality and Suitability for a particular post.

The Personnel Interview is of 275 marks that reaches the grand total to 2025 marks.
